“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.

Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

I have seen this posted a lot in the last 24 hours… and the more people I ask, the more I see a distinction between the action taken by Obama, and the frenzied celebration that resulted from it.  Am I the only one that sees this as a primitive PR/distraction project..?

Gail Collins, opinionator for the New York Times, says, “It’s been a long time since we’ve had something to celebrate in this country that doesn’t involve a sports team.  I’d rather it didn’t involve a death, but we’ll take what we can get.”  (NYT May 3 2011)
